Have you wondered if the events of the past few weeks in the Middle East are the beginning of the end of time? Come and join us for a fascinating study of the subject, "Last Days" and see what the Bible says about the time of the end. A new movement has risen to challenge current views of the end time. With websites, articles, books and audio tapes proliferating daily, the pendulum is gaining momentum for a huge swing in the opposite direction on the timing of Jesus' second coming and the last days. If you have been swept up in the never ending maize of failed futuristic prophetic speculations, it's time to take a fresh look at the scriptures. Jesus promised that he would return in the first century. Many scholars, honest in their approach, (C.S. Lewis, Albert Schweitzer, Rudolph Bultman, etc) yet misguided in their conclusions, believed the only rational answer for the bible's imminent first century emphasis was that Jesus and his apostles were mistaken and even lied about the timing of his return. The apostles taught very clearly that it was "at hand" "shortly to come to pass" and would happen within the generation that was alive when Jesus was on earth, (Matthew 24:34), --even before some died who stood in his presence. (Matthew 16:28) Attributing error to Jesus and his apostles is a hard sell to some very serious minded evangelists and bible students of today from all religious backgrounds. While this movement gained early notoriety from ministers in the churches of Christ, adherents now come from all religious organizations from Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Pentecostal to name a few. They are called Preterists, a name representing those who believe that all prophecy was fulfilled in the past. Some prefer the name Covenant Eschatology which emphasizes that the second coming is about the end of the Old Covenant age versus the destruction of the material world as we know it. In either case, it means they believe and teach that Christ's second coming occurred in the first century, in connection with the event known as the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, when all things written were said to be fulfilled, (Luke 21:20-22). William Bell will speak on 3 of 14 topics, including "The Importance of Deuteronomy 32, "The Hymenaean Heresy", and "The Timing of the Resurrection."
