There is a sense of excitement as the clock ticks down to the launch of the book "Brekenridge • Ride the Dream." First time author, Susanne Friedl, has waited years for this project to see fruition. On April 23, 2007, in the warm ambiance of Hamilton's new hot spot -- Seven Windows Restaurant -- Susanne will share her hopes and aspirations for this book and its readers. The book features Mandy who, shortly after arriving into Canada, gets drawn into the world of dressage at Brekenridge. Every horse lover and rider at every level will relate to the intense ambitions, bitter competition, and the fear of failure. As the story unfolds, the emotions and dreams of success are realized, in sport and romance. "There is a reason for everything. I wrote the book ten years ago as therapy for myself. It has always been my goal to give back. I am where I am because I believe in all possibilities," said Susanne Friedl. The book will be selling for $ 10.00 and is appropriate for readers 13+ years. It will be sold at the upcoming Pan-AM Dressage Team Trials, private events, book signings, Chapters, Indigo & Volumes online. What is truly heartwarming about this book is that all the royalties will be donated to two heartfelt initiatives, fulfilling two very different lifelong aspirations. The "Blu•Rein Equestrian Training Support Fund" and "The Patricia House" - Mountain Region, Dominican Republic (see backgrounder for details). The atmosphere; the story; the initiatives, are all surrounded by the fulfillment of dreams. They encourage people to come together and be grateful for the opportunities our great country of Canada provides. "Blu •Rein Equestrian Training Support Fund" Our professional athletes work hard to reach their goals. What can be more rewarding than helping them fulfill their dream? It's a team effort to get them there. We all know that butterfly feeling we get when we know we have done a good job; the feeling of patriotic pride as one of our own represents our country; the pure enjoyment of watching a sport we all love. A portion of the royalties will be allocated to this initiative will be donated directly to Dressage Canada to assist in this year's expenses to the Pan-American Games and the another portion will be dedicated to assist an up & coming rider to obtain professional training from one of our high performance trainers. "The Patricia House" - Mountain Region, Dominican Republic Very much in the initial stages, our goal is to develop a resource centre. One where people can go for the basic essentials of life, and further learn lifelong skills that will forever give them hope. Built on dreams and hope - this place will be a success. Volunteers are the backbone to this facility. Volunteers which come from all corners of the world to participate in helping our chosen village of Los Quemados. Each volunteer offering their unique talents to the individual programs. This community needs our help - they need CHOICE; right now they live to survive. Is that really what living is all about? Our small steps in the Dominican Republic have been: In November 2006, we were able to distribute 700 lbs of health packs, baby clothing, shoes, glasses and medicine. This is when we realized that this community needs more than a hand-out they need a hand-up. On March 26, 2007, we coordinated a Parasite and Wound Clinic. With the contributions from our local community we took 2000 lbs of clinical supplies and medication to assist five doctors as they treated many children that needed help. In November of 2007, we will be coordinating a dental clinic and offering a hygiene and first aid clinic. As well, we will begin our search for land.
