Janet Jackson was so unaccustomed to having a man take care of her, that beau Jermaine Dupri’s gentlemanly behaviour made her ‘really uncomfortable’ when they first started dating. Jackson revealed that she had become so accustomed to taking care of the people in her life, that having someone take care of her had left her feeling “uncomfortable” – a problem she solved by having a heart-to-heart with Dupri. "I was never used to having someone take care of me... That made me really uncomfortable. I've been taking care of myself my whole life - I even paid my school tuition at a very young age. And when I was married (to James Debarge and Rene Elizondo), I took care of us. I thought that was the way life was," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying. "I never desired to have anybody take care of me, so to have a man do things for me was very different. I thought, 'I can't do this.' Finally, we had a conversation about it and agreed that we'd take turns paying. But it was hard for me," she added.
