'Jesus Christ Superstar' veterans perform like the Rolling Stones

By: Hollywood News

They may be well into their 60s, but their age did not put a dampner in the audience’s response when the cast of the movie version of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ appeared for a benefit stage performance recently.

Actor Teddy Neeley, who played Jesus in the rock opera at the age of 28, reunited with Ben Vereen, who played Judas in the original Broadway production in place of Carl Anderson, who acted in the movie but died in 2004, and others for the benefit performance that also saw ‘King Kong’ star Jack Black playing the role of King Herod.

The performance was so well received that the Los Angeles Times stated that it was as if the Rolling Stones were performing.

"The advanced age of the show's veterans could not wither the response of the faithful, who showered the performers with continuous rapturous ovations. ... Some audience members pumped their fists and screamed as if the Rolling Stones had just walked into the auditorium," Contactmusic quoted the paper, as saying.
