Fifteen people were killed when a van was swept away by flood waters while trying to cross a nullah in Chahan village on Chakri road here Friday morning. Superintendent Police Pothohar Town Yasin Farooq told media that a pickup on way to Rewat from Pandi Ghap was swept by gushing rainwater while trying to cross a nullah on Chakri road. He said seven people were still reported missing who are feared dead. The rescued were provided first aid. District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas and District Coordinating Officer (DCO) visited the area soon after the incident to inspect the rescue operation. Police are searching for more bodies. The names of the deceased were identified as Bani Begum, Shamim Akhtar, Ghulam Fatima, Jahan Begum, Umer Farooq, Farah Naz, Fauzia, Mohammad Islam and Shabana and the corpses of four others could not be identified yet. Four die in Skardu And a report from Skardu says that four persons including two women and a kid were killed and 27 houses were destroyed by flooding in Skardu after heavy rains. According to reports, flood washed away two women Bano Bibi and Farida Bibi and a child Babar Ali 9, in Mirdo village in Kharming, a sub division of Skardu district. Floodwaters also destroyed 27 houses. Police sources said that a man Ali Raza was also swept away while trying to cross Shagar river in sub division Shagar. Parts of Shagar- Tasar road washed away at several points due to low-level flood, cutting Shagar and Tasar villages road link with other areas. According to the administration, relief activities were underway in the affected areas Jhelum in High Flood Water level was rising in rivers due to monsoon rains in catchments areas. River Jhelum was in high flood at Mangla as water level in the river was reached to 1,70,000 cusecs. According to Water & Power department about 20,000 cusecs water increased in Jhelum at Mangla within last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Jhelum was in low flood at Rasul. River Indus was in medium flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Chashma, while at Taunsa, Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri Indus was in low flood. River Chenab was in low flood at Marala and Qadirpur while flowing below low flood level at Treemu and Panjnad.
