Twenty-seven people lost their lives and several others have been injured in a fire mishap at a wedding reception in Dera Ghazi Khan, located 500 kilometres southwest from Islamabad. The incident occurred at a wedding party at Jhok Utra village about 20 kilometers from Dera Ghazi Khan. The dead includes 17 women and five children who got trapped in the fire. According to eyewitnesses, power cables snapped and a wall collapsed, after the fire broke out that aggravated the whole situation. The children and women became victims in the fire due to the stampede as people started running amok. The fire caused stampede and people tried to run out through a narrow alley. The women and children ran helter-skelter. In panic they took refuge under a dilapidated wall of the house, which collapsed on them, The News reported. While the bride Fiza Mai was killed in the fire, the groom is injured and his health is stated to be critical. Over 20 people were injured in the tragedy and have been admitted at district headquarters hospital Dera Ghazi Khan and Nishtar Hospital Multan. According to the police some of the injured are in a critical state and there is fear that the toll might increase further. Most of the dead have already been given burial in an adjoining place near the site of the incident.
