A total of 348 people, including 48 policemen, were killed and 340 injured since the 'Salwa Judum' or peace campaign was launched against naxalites on June 5, 2005 in Chhattisgarh, the Assembly was informed today. A total of 272 villagers, 48 policemen and 28 naxalites were killed between June six 2005 to June 30, 2006, state Home Minuster Ram Vichar Netam said in a written reply. During the period of Salwa Judum in Dantewada and Bijapur districts, 307 villagers and 33 policemen were injured, Netam said. To a question by Kawashi Lakhma of Congress, he said the government had not provided compensation to the villagers against their domesticated animals in Konta block of Dantewada district as 25,272 villagers are staying in camps but keeping their animals at the villages. To a question by former Home Minister Nand Kumar Patel of Congress, Netam said currently 17 relief camps are being run in Dantewada and Bijapur districts for the people affected by naxalites.
