Yorick and Pals (http://yorickandpals.com), the website of amateur ventriloquist Bob Albano, is offering a free e-book edition of "A Pictorial History of Ventriloquism." The book begins with a chapter on ventriloquists who entertained during the 18th and 19th centuries and then proceeds to two lengthy chapters on ventriloquists of the 20th century. In chapter 2 Albano presents mini-biographies of ventriloquists during the vaudeville era, ending approximately around 1930. The third chapter continues with the same format but examines ventriloquists during the radio, motion picture, and television eras as well as those who continued to perform live on stage after 1930. Additional chapters cover ventriloquists of today, both professional and local, and makers of figures (or dummies) and puppets. There are also special chapters on ventriloquism as it relates to the Miss America pageant, comedy movies, and horror films. Moreover, there is a chapter on Dan Willinger's figure collection and another one on ventriloquist toys. The book concludes with special tribute chapters on several great ventriloquists of the past, including Edgar Bergen, Paul Winchell, and Harry Lester. The book developed out of Albano's previous website, A Tribute to Ventriloquism, which has been discontinued. The book has taken Albano more than two years to complete. Albano welcomes anyone interested in the fun and fanciful art of ventriloquism to visit his site (http://yorickandpals.com) and download the book for free. The author hopes to promote both enjoyment and pleasure in this wonderful form of entertainment.
