ANDevices’ Tunable Optical Dispersion Compensator Wins Telecommunications and Aerospace Markets

By: Bollywood Movie Review

ANDevices, Inc., a leading component vendor to fiber optic equipment vendors, is winning new markets for its Tunable Optical Dispersion Compensators (TODC). CIR, Inc estimates this market to reach $245MM by 2012. TODC are used in telecommunications to extend the reach of long-haul fiber optic networks. A major aerospace corporation has decided to use ANDevices’ technology for defense programs expected to last over 10 years.

ANDevices offers TODC that are more compact, robust, fast, accurate, with wider tuning ranges than competing products. When tuning to different channels, the TODC does not interfere with any of the express traffic. Manufacturing is based on solid state semiconductor fabrication techniques, and are therefore easily mass-reproducible and reliable. Over the past 2 years, ANDevices has developed high-performance devices primarily for 10 Gigabit applications based on a strong IP and know-how portfolio. As ANDevices’ 10 Gigabit products gain commercial acceptance for long-haul and metro applications, 40 Gigabit devices are being sampled to equipment vendors.

Dr. Jacob Sun, CEO and President of ANDevices, sees a bright future for TODC. “Our customers have been asking for TODC for the past few years and we have responded by tailoring our technology to meet the specific requirements of telecommunications vendors who need compact and low-cost devices. We are very pleased that our technology will be able to serve the aerospace industry as well.”

ANDevices will scale production of 10 Gigabit TODC to commercial volumes in Q4-2007 and refine 40 Gigabit products into early 2008. Dr. Wenhua Lin, VP of Technology and New Product Development says, “As our TODC have a periodic response, a single device can be used to compensate an entire multiplex of frequencies across either the C- or L- bands; this feature dramatically improves the economics of 10 Gigabit long-haul systems and easily justifies additional capital investment. For 40 Gigabit applications, TODC will be necessary for all transmission formats. Our products will be ready in 2008 to serve this market as well.”

ANDevices’ TODC are commercially available for 100GHz channel spacing applications. The technology can be adapted to serve denser channel spacing such as 33.3GHz.
