Andhra depositors protection act challenged in High Court

By: Legal - Law News

Chief Editor of Eenadu Group of Publications Ramoji Rao today filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court questioning the constitutional validity of the AP Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act, 1999.

He earlier filed another writ petition questioning the constitution of Rangachary Committee by the state government to look into alleged irregularities by Margardarshi Financiers, an entity of the group.

During arguments on the first petition, the court said if he felt the state did not have the power to appoint the panel under Section 3 of the Act, he could challenge the validity of the law.

It said this would allow it to consider all aspects of the controversy surrounding Margardarshi Financiers and the action of the state government.

The media baron then filed the second petition.
