Wheat supply position will be eased further with the arrival of 7.65 lakh tonne as part of the 30 lakh tonne wheat import contract by the end of this month.
The delivery schedule points to immediate 1.59 lakh tonne arrival by August 12, 2006.
Government is importing wheat through the State Trading Corporation of India.
With this, the cumulative arrival of imported wheat by the end of this week would be 4.37 lakh tonne, an official release said.
The food ministry has already taken necessary steps for importing 3.5 lakh tonne of wheat in addition to the 30 lakh tonne already contracted for import.
Private contractors have also procured contracts for import of 15 lakh tonne to be delivered shortly at Mumbai and Chennai ports.
The position relating to sugar supply is comfortable as the production this year is expected to be about 192 lakh tonne as against of 126 lakh tonne last year.
The government proposes to release two lakh tonne more of non-levy sugar for September 2006 as compared to 13 lakh tonne released for August 2006, the release said.
