Rajya Sabha MP and Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj today lambasted the special industrial policy giving maximum incentives for projects to be set up in the four states of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal, Himahchal Pradesh and North-East. Bajaj said the incentives which were earlier to be withdrawan after March 2007 were now going to be extended further and said he has already taken up the issue with both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. "These incentives should be discontinued from March 2007 itself," he said. He also said the mushrooming of SEZs should be discouraged as these would be the people who would not be paying corporate taxes to the exchequer. He called for keeping two important factors in mind wherever land acquisition was taking place for SEZs. "No force should be used to acquire land from land-holders and the land should be purchased at market rates," he suggested. He appealed to the Government for creating better infrastructure and evolving a competitive environment among states for attracting investments instead of having "distorting industrial policies" of giving benefits. He also appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh for enhancing the infrastructure in the Chakan belt of Pune where Bajaj Auto has its plant. Deshmukh assured that his Government would enhance infrastructure facilities under the new industrial policy of the state which would be out very soon. This policy would give a thrust to infrastructural projects and encourage the BOT model.
