Smugglers in Pakistan reportedly earn about Rs.10 billion through human trafficking to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This year, according to The News, over 150,000 people have been sold to various Arab states, and well-placed sources have told the paper that thousands have been smuggled and sold during the last four years. They claimed that human trafficking victims are gathered in Karachi and delivered to inter-provincial agents, who take them to the Pakistan-Iran border at Mand Billo in Balochistan, from where they are deported to the UAE. They said local agents were charging as much as Rs.20, 000 to Rs.30, 000 from each person. Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) officials have confirmed that they have not been able to stop infiltration from the Pakistan side due to the long Pakistan-Iran border. Talking to the paper, Ansar Burni, the chief of a welfare trust, said that the Pakistan Government was violating international rules by bringing the deportees back by cargo ships instead of passenger ships. He claimed that most of the deportees belonged to Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahaud Din in the Punjab and various other areas of the NWFP and Sindh. Burni said Iranian border security forces were also involved in this crime. He demanded the government start an awareness campaign to reduce the people's trend to go abroad illegally.
