Pop star Beyonce Knowles may have lost 20 pounds in just 10 days, with the help of the maple syrup diet, but the singer does not recommend it to people who want to lose those extra pounds. "I would never recommend it to anyone unless you are doing a movie and it's necessary, and you have proper help. There are ways to lose weight healthily if you want to lose weight, but this was for a film," she was quoted by Ratethemusic, as saying. "It's great because I look at the movie and I don't recognise myself - which was the point! The funnest part was putting the weight back on and eating my doughnuts and all the other things, so now I'm back to my body. I'm very conscious of being a curvy woman and I'm very happy that I am a curvy woman," she added. Knowles has come under fire from leading dieticians for revealing how she survived on just maple syrup mixed with water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper - because fans are sure to mimic her. Originally developed in the 1950s by Stanley Burroughs, a naturopath, for a patient with a stomach ulcer it has become highly popular as a "detox" diet, especially among yoga devotees. However, dietician Alison Chipperfield, who works with British group Weight Concern, said, "(Maple syrup dieters) will probably end up in hospital, especially people who try it for more than 10 days."
