Exactly one year before September 11, 2001, Dick Rasanen found himself lying on the operating table looking up at a heart transplant surgeon. After suffering from congestive heart failure, he was finally undergoing the procedure that would bring him closer to receiving a new physical heart. This experience led to his penning of From One Heart to Another (paperback, 1-60034-507-7), a personal glimpse into the connection between faith and health. Says Rasanen, “While physical heart failure can happen to anyone, spiritual heart failure happens to everyone and is remedied only by going from one spiritual heart to another. I want readers to be able to live new lives shaped by a new heart instead of just a big hurt so they can give up the vain struggle to just put the best face on things.” It is just that -- putting the best face on things -- that has become the deterrent in our individual quest for new spiritual hearts. Rasanen hopes his affirmation of the power of faith will encourage readers to seek their own spiritual awakenings. Still, he maintains, “This book isn’t about just me. It’s about Christ in me and the church around me. The most exciting thing anyone ever said about me was that God used me in helping them to receive Christ.” Dick Rasanen underwent heart transplant surgery on September 11, 2000. He graduated with a Master of Divinity from North Park Seminary in Chicago in 1982. Ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church, he’s been a pastor for more than 20 years and has served Covenant churches in Pleasantdale, New York; East Grand Forks, Minnesota; Portland, Maine; and Rockford, Illinois. He and his wife Paula have three children: Ben, Jenna, and Krista. Xulon Press is the world’s largest Christian publisher, with more than 2,700 titles published to date. Retailers may order From One Heart to Another through Ingram Book Company and/or Spring Arbor Book Distributors.
