Looks like naked Britney Spears isn't as controversial as Tokyo subway officials had thought. The officials have decided to allow advertisements for Japan's version of Harper's Bazaar featuring pictures of a naked and pregnant Britney Spears, following an initial ban by government censors who branded it "too stimulating" for young people The picture of the pop singer; nude but covering her breasts with her arms and crossing her legs at the knee, had appeared in the American edition of the August issue of Harper's Bazaar and will now be on the cover of the Japanese edition in October. The publishers had reluctantly agreed to blacken out the image from the waist down, covering most of the pop star's belly and thighs, and had planned to write in the black space: "in this place we are not allowed to exercise the same level of freedom of expression as the original Harper's Bazaar." However, the Metro officials on Thursday said that it would allow full presentation of the photo as an exception to its obscenity rule, saying it understood the publisher's intention was to portray a happy mother - not to be sexually explicit. "I'm glad the subway officials understood the meaning of the photo," the Daily Mail quoted the magazine's deputy chief editor, Kayoko Higashino, as saying. Tokyo Metro spokesman Tatsuya Edakubo said that in principle, nudity is not accepted in ads in subway cars and stations. "Our earlier request to cover the photo from the waist down was because of nudity, not because we had anything against pregnant women," he said, adding that officials later decided that censoring the photo would be inappropriate. Spears, 24, and husband Kevin Federline, 28, are expecting their second child this fall. The couple already have an 11-month-old child, Sean Preston.
