On the heels of being recognized by People en Español as actress of the year and gracing the cover of its December/January issue currently on stands, Fox Pan American Sports today announced that award-winning Mexican television and film mega star Kate del Castillo will co-host the fifth anniversary edition of Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL. Joining her as co-host will be one of the most sought out Latino television and film actors of this generation, Chilean-born Cristián de la Fuente. Marking the first time the dynamic duo will share a stage, the all-star annual event will take place on Wednesday, December 12 at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Airing throughout the United States on Fox Sports en Español and the Spanish-speaking Americas via Fox Sports Latin America on Sunday, December 16, the one-of-a-kind awards ceremony will honor the year’s very best in Latino sports and showcase some of today’s biggest names in entertainment. “No doubt the ideal choices to headline our fifth anniversary edition of Premios Fox Sports, we are tremendously proud to welcome Kate and Cristián to the Fox Pan American Sports family,” said Patrick Ilabaca, vice president of event marketing for Fox Pan American Sports. “Committed to helping us deliver the best show to date, they not only share our intense passion for sports, but also are the embodiment of the highest levels of excellence, dedication and integrity with which Premios Fox Sports has become synonymous and our viewers and advertisers have come to expect from us.” A proud multigenerational soccer fan, for del Castillo - accepting the offer to host was easy. Said del Castillo: "I'm thrilled to be hosting Premios Fox Sports. I've always been a huge fan of sports and I’m happy to finally have the opportunity to meet so many of the athletes that I’ve admired over the years. It’s no secret that I love soccer – particularly my Chivas de Guadalajara. It is truly an honor for me to be part of this tremendous event." Just like this year’s Premios Fox Sports honorees, she’s cultivated a legion of admirers of her own as one of the most recognized and beloved faces on Latin American television and star of more than nine Spanish-language telenovelas over the past decade. She got her big break on America’s small screen in PBS’ Golden Globe nominated series “American Family.” A fast-rising film actress stateside, she starred opposite Kevin Kline in human-trafficking drama “Trade” shortly after moving to Los Angeles from her native Mexico. In 2008 alone, del Castillo will star in Fox Searchlight’s Sundance Film Festival audience favorite “Under the Same Moon/La Misma Luna,” also featuring Eugenio Derbez, Adrian Alonso, America Ferrera, Carmen Salinas, Gabriel Porras, and Los Tigres del Norte; independent film “Julia,” opposite Tilda Swinton, directed by Cannes Film Festival winner Erick Sonka; the dark feature comedy “Bad Guys,” and “The Black Pimpernel,” set in Chile during the fall of the Allende regime. For her critically acclaimed breakout role as a Bolivian prostitute in the film “American Visa,” she won Best Actress honors at the Huelva International Film Festival in Spain, as well as earned a Best Actress in a lead actress role nomination at the Ariel Awards – Mexico’s equivalent to the Academy Awards – and won the Araucaria de Oro award as Best Actress at the Parana Brazilian Film and Latino Film Festival. With the recent launch of her new book Tuya, Kate can now add “published author” to her list of accomplishments. She is currently writing her second screenplay. A natural-born athlete and loyal sports enthusiast since an early age, Cristián de la Fuente enjoys playing tennis, boxing, skiing, golfing, and weight training. An officer in the reserves for the Chilean air force, and a licensed pilot since 1996, the rising star sees a lot of parallels in what drives his passion for sports and his commitment to acting. Says Christian: “My father was an athlete and won the South American championships in the 100 and 200 meters. His athletic success is probably the fundamental reason why sports have always played such an integral role in my life. My participation in this year’s Premios Fox Sports is an experience that my father would undoubtedly be very proud of. I am truly honored and delighted to experience this momentous occasion with all of you watching tonight in more than 33 million homes across the Americas.” The budding film producer and one of the most consummate Latino actors working in Hollywood today, Cristián de la Fuente is also a People Magazine favorite – having been featured among the English-language magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 2000, and in its en español counterpart three times (1999, 2004, and 2005). Aside from having appeared in numerous television dramas and variety shows in the United States, Mexico, and South America, he presently has a recurring role on ABC’S smash-hit “Ugly Betty” and is a lead in Univision’s mini-series event executive produced by Jennifer Lopez, “Como Ama Una Mujer.” In addition, the multitalented de la Fuente executive produced and starred in the foreign film ‘El Nominado,” an official selection at the New York Latin Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, Miami Latin Film Festival, and the San Diego Film Festival. His first film, “Driven,” in which he co-starred opposite Sylvester Stallone opened to number one at the box office. He later starred opposite John Travolta and Samuel Jackson in box office hit “Basic,” as well as opposite Esai Morales in “Once upon a Wedding,” and alongside John Leguizamo in “Sueños.” On the small screen, he counts among his diverse credits a leading role on Telemundo’s “Reyes y Rey,” a series regular on CBS’ hit “Family Law” and NBC’s “The Class,” a recurring role on NBC’s “Hidden Hills,” and a guest starring role as Kelly Rippa’s love interest on “Hope and Faith.” About Fox Pan American Sports Fox Pan American Sports LLC, operator of Fox Sports en Español and Fox Sports Latin America, is an international sports programming and production entity jointly owned by HM Capital Partners, LLC and News Corporation's (NYSE:NWS) Fox Sports International.
