Eric Martins, managing director of Duane Morris Government Affairs-New Jersey (DMGA), has been appointed to the New Jersey Economic Growth Council by Gov. Jon Corzine. Created by executive order last September, the council is a select group of private sector leaders and key public sector officials under the leadership of the chief of the Governor’s Office of Economic Growth (OEC). The council’s charge is to assist the OEC in development and implementation of statewide economic development policies to further the governor’s emphasis on economic development and business expansion to strengthen New Jersey. Martins, who also serves in the public sector as a member of the Board of Directors of the South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC), leads the DMGA office in Trenton with responsibility for directing work on behalf of the firm’s New Jersey government affairs clients. As a member of the SJPC board he has participated in New Jersey trade missions to China and the Netherlands. Martins expects “To make a contribution to the work of the council through knowledge gained on overseas trade missions, my understanding of the strong resource represented by the SJPC’s Port of Camden, and experience in the private sector as an attorney and as a business advocate before state government.” DMGA provides state and federal government relations and lobbying services to a wide range of businesses from highly regulated industries to market-based entrepreneurial concerns. With its multi-jurisdictional governmental affairs service, DMGA has the tools, personnel and networks to resolve complex public affairs issues.
