East Delhi was set to witness tremendous infrastructural development in the run-up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games and would come on par with the better developed localities of the capital, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.
"Construction of Games Village in the Trans-Yamuna area will not only catalyse all-round development of the area but would also ensure that civic services and insfrastructure come on par with the most developed localities of New Delhi," she said.
Dikshit, who was speaking after laying the foundation stone of a community centre at Old Seemapuri in East Delhi, said her government was fully conscious of the developmental needs of the area and was committed to fulfilling them.
She said after the completion of works on community centres in East Delhi, the Trans Yamuna Development Board would undertake construction of about 50-60 public toilets in the area.
Dikshit said over the past few years, the area had witnessed construction of several hospitals, community centres and a cultural centre in the area.
Also present on the occasion were local MP Sandeep Dikshit and Trans Yamuna Development Board chairman and MLA Narendra Nath.
