Esquire, the original men’s magazine and the premier authority on men’s style for more than 70 years, is for the first time conducting its heralded search for the “Best Dressed Real Man in America” online, encouraging millions of well-turned out men from across the country to enter the competition via the Internet. The contest will continue through May 30th with results being announced in September. “At Esquire, we believe that style is about what a man is and also what he hopes to become,” said Editor-in-Chief David Granger. “Now in its third year, I look forward to this year’s competition happening online, as it will give many more men across America the opportunity to enter. What we’re finding is that as the country becomes more stylish, each year the contest becomes more competitive, and we expect the bar this year to be higher than ever.” Men who feel that their personal style is a cut above the rest — as well as their wives and girlfriends — are able to submit their applications by registering at www.bdrm07.esquire.com. Entering is easy and requires only four steps: (1) submitting before May 30th, (2) uploading three photos — a close-up, a face-and-torso shot and a full-body shot, (3) answering three quick questions, and (4) possessing a certain individual style. From June through August, visitors to Esquire.com — the magazine’s newly redesigned Web site — will be able to rank their favorite contestants. Of the thousands of entrants expected to enter, five finalists will ultimately be selected and flown to New York City for a photo shoot with Esquire Fashion Director Nick Sullivan for the magazine’s September “Style” issue. The winner will receive a prize worth $10,000 –$5,000 in cash and an Esquire wardrobe worth $5,000 – as well as their profile in Esquire’s September style issue and an opportunity to be on national TV in New York. The search for “The Best Dressed Real Man in America” is an extension of the magazine’s annual “Best Dressed” list. In 2006, Daniel Craig, the “Best 007 ever,” was chosen as Esquire’s “Best Dressed Man in the World.” Esquire’s “Best Dressed” list is an annual look at inspiring new style icons, and past notables who’ve made the list include George Clooney, Jude Law, Kanye West, Patrick Dempsey, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Last year’s “Best Dressed Real Man in America” contest winner was Anthony Rogers, a police officer from Hempstead, NY, who was selected from among the finalists live on “The Today Show.” Esquire is published by Hearst Magazines, a unit of Hearst Corporation (www.hearst.com) and one of the world’s largest publishers of monthly magazines with a total of 19 U.S. titles and nearly 200 international editions. Hearst reaches more adults than any other publisher of monthly magazines (73.4 million according to MRI, fall 2006). The company also publishes 19 magazines in the United Kingdom through its wholly owned subsidiary, The National Magazine Company Limited.
