The estimated cost of executing various projects under the National Highway Development Programme (NHDP) would be about Rs 1,02,370 crore and Rs 4,759.97 crore has been spent so far on North-South and East-West corridors till June 30, the Lok Sabha was informed today. The amount was spent on projects under NHDP Phase IV, V, VI, VII, Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu said in a written reply. Baalu said the cumulative expenditure incurred on road corridors project was Rs 4759.97 crore upto June 30, and 68 per cent of land required for road construction has been acquired. The project was likely to be completed substantially by the end of December 2008. The amount of money earmarked for the NHDP projects would be utilized for upgrading 20,000 kms of single of intermediate lane national highways to two-lanes, six-laning of 6,500 km of national highways under NHDP Phase V and development of 1,000 km Expressways under NHDP Phase VI and construction of bypasses, flyovers, road over-bridges at required locations under NHDP Phase VII, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways said in reply to a query. The NHDP projects were expected to complete by December 2015, he added.
