Front Sight - Two-Day Shotgun

By: Jayden Adams

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute was founded in 1996 by Dr. Ignatius Piazza. The first course taught was a two-day defensive handgun training course. This course was taught on rented space in California. Dr. Ignatius Piazza was the only instructor and his first course had a mere ten students. Although there were only ten students, those ten students began a trend that is still going strong today.

Since it opened in 1996, the number of students attending Front Sight has and continues to grow each year by the hundreds. Along with the number of students, the number of Front Sight instructors and available courses have also increased. To date, tens of thousands of people now attend Front Sight Training courses at two different facilities year round. The first facility is Front Sight Nevada, which is located approximately forty miles outside of Las Vegas. The second facility is Front Sight Alaska, located on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The Kenai Peninsula is often also referred to as Alaska’s Playground due to its vast number of lakes, streams and wildlife.

Front Sight Alaska currently offers several types of wilderness safety courses to include firearms training courses. The firearms training courses include shotgun, rifle, submachine gun and handgun training for people of all ages and genders. One such course is the two-day shotgun skill builder course.

The two-day shotgun skill builder course is designed to improve a student’s tactical shotgun speed and accuracy. Because shotguns are commonly used for defensive measures as well as in sport hunting, accuracy is increasingly important. The main reason for this is due to the unexpected arrivals of many animals while in the wilderness. Dangers can present themselves in a matter of moments and the hunter or hiker must be ready.

Front Sight does require that an individual complete the two or four-day tactical shotgun course prior to attending this two-day shotgun skill builder class. While the course does increase a student’s ability to shoot a shotgun effectively and safely, it also increases the student’s skills enabling him to comfortably advance on to the Advanced Tactical Shotgun Course.

Unlike many firearms training courses offered by other training schools, Front Sight’s Two-Day Shotgun Skill Builder course does not keep the student in a stuffy classroom for most of the course. The entire two-day course at Front Sight is taught on the firing range.

Front Sight acknowledges that unlike classroom instruction, firing range instruction enables the student to work on speed and accuracy of his shot while also improving his gun handling techniques. By improving those skills, the shooter can dramatically shorten the amount of time it takes for him to accurately draw his weapon from many different standing, lying, kneeling, and sitting positions. Furthermore, this course trains the shooter to fire accurately with buckshot, birdshot, and slugs.

Front Sight courses, such as this Two-Day Shotgun Skill Builder class, is why Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is top of its class. Whether a person is interested in increasing his skill level regarding firing a shotgun for his own personal satisfaction, or is actively seeking that higher certification, Front Sight Two-Day Shotgun Skill Builder course is the perfect training experience.
