Greer, a leading developer and provider of allergy immunotherapy products and treatments, is pleased to announce it has been granted Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). Greer was granted the certificate after undergoing a GMP inspection by UK VMD and a VMD analysis of Greer’s commitment to comply with European GMP standards. The VMD has powers aimed at protecting public health, animal welfare and use of authorized medicines in the United Kingdom. Good Manufacturing Practices are provisions that are intended to ensure the quality, identity and purity of medicines. “We believe that obtaining GMP certification will fill a current gap in Europe’s veterinary allergy market,” says John G. Roby, president and CEO of Greer. “Currently there are no licensed veterinary extracts in the UK. Being granted a GMP certification not only positions Greer as a global leader in veterinary allergy immunotherapy, but it also shows our commitment to the industry and advancing the use of immunotherapy.” The GMP certification will allow Greer to ship its line of immunotherapy prescriptions to veterinarians in the UK. Veterinarians in the UK will be required to submit Special Treatment Certificate applications to the UK VMD. Greer is currently taking the necessary steps to obtain Provisional Marketing Authorization (PMA) which will eliminate the need for veterinarians to submit Special Treatment Certificate applications. The company’s strategic intent is to enter the European immunotherapy veterinary market across its current product lines. This includes extracts used in testing and treating allergic animals, as well as serum testing and immunotherapy prescriptions.
