Guide to a Successful E-zine

By: Jason Pearson

E-zines are a way to keep customers informed about new products or developments in your company. They are less expensive to distribute than hard copy newsletters, and can therefore be published as often as needed. They are delivered to an audience that has opted to receive them and can directly result in more profits. Use the following guidelines to help develop your e-zine.

Ideas for new content can become more challenging after you have published several issues. Remember to use an e-zine as a vehicle for announcements, promoting conferences, and customer feedback. Including reviews of products or services is yet another way of getting your name out to customers and enhancing communication.

Encouraging people to give their opinions through survey results is a way of building a relationship with your client community. In addition to getting customers' views, you could publish a reader profile with every issue. You could also offer giveaways or discounts. There are dozens of ways to compel people to try new products, but including them in your community or giving them something for free almost always works.

E-zines can be a successful marketing tool, but only for those who distribute them effectively. Emailing your information to everyone under the sun will not get you more business. It will earn you a reputation for lazy marketing tactics.

There are many ways to allow people to sign up for your e-zine. You can also list your publication with a directories specifically created for e-zines. These directories are also valuable tools when you are researching competitor's newsletters.

Take note of what works well in others' e-zines. You may choose to use a more or less sophisticated version of what already exists simply to cater to your readership. Your budget and the time you have to commit to this project will also narrow down your ideas. Whichever style of publication you pick should be something you feel you can recreate every single issue.

You may need to outsource the writing to a professional to make sure your content doesn't fall short. Copywriters often have a knack for attention-grabbing phrases and headings. They will also have their work edited to make sure you don't send out any sloppy material.

Finally, make sure your work has been edited thoroughly for spelling, grammar and style. You may choose to take on this work yourself or to outsource various parts of your e-zine. Whether it is produced in-house or not, make sure that you deliver your readers useful and interesting content every time.
