The Gujarat Forest department has sent a notice to actor Aamir Khan for allegdly violating the Wildlife Act during the making of his film 'Lagaan' eight years ago when he had filmed a Chinkara without its permisison in the Kutch district. The department sent a notice yesterday to his whole production team for filming the Chinkara without its permission, Forest officials said today. The department has given him a week's time to reply to the notice. Aamir and his team were in parts of Kutch district for months for the shooting of "Lagaan". The Forest Department in the notice has asked Aamir Khan as to why his team had not taken its permission while filming the chinkara and what the production team had done in the forest during the shoot. "Preliminary probe has revealed that the producers did not take permission from the Forest Department to film the chinkara," a Forest official said. "Though no animal was harmed in any way during the filming process, the producers and some officials had broken the rules. Moreover, the footage taken was used for commercial purpose," the official said. "If the filming was done in connection with a documentary or wildlife film, then it would not have mattered, but since the film and the footage of the Chinkara was made and used for a commercial purpose it is illegal", the official added. He said that in the preliminary probe, a Forest beat guard, who had taken the production team to film the Chinkara, had said that he only led them to the spot and was not aware of how and what they filmed.
