LUXURY HOLIDAY HOMES AT HISTORIC ABBEY ON LOCH NESS

The former Abbey at Fort Augustus, located at the southern tip of Loch Ness is undergoing renovation to provide deluxe self-catering apartments and cottages.

The fort started out as a military garrison and was later converted into a place of peace by the St Benedictine monks.

The Fort Augustus Abbey provides over a hundred apartments and cottages. Some of them are residential but most of them are available for self-catering holiday rentals. All the available accommodation has been divided into seven main sections; each of the sections represents a building within the society. Each of the buildings has an interesting and alluring history behind it. The Moat house located on the grounds of Fort Augustus Abbey has been recently renovated to provide for a selection of one, two and three bedroom apartments on three floors. All the accommodation is fully modernized and of high quality. Most of the apartments in the Moat house are used as holiday rentals or as self-catering holiday accommodation. Some of these are designed for residential purposes and are used as second homes.

The Old School building has also been recently renovated in December 2006. It provides a selection of exclusive holiday homes just yards from the lake Loch Ness. A stunning feature of this building is the fabulous entrance, "the front door" under the clock tower. Another notable aspect inside the building is the fabulous wide staircase with carved banister.

The Old School building now consists of fifteen two and three bedroom apartments on three floors. Some of these homes have picturesque views and look out over the cloisters and across to the Monastery and the hills of the Great Glen beyond. Other homes look across the abbey grounds towards the village of Fort Augustus and the top floors have magnificent views of the Caledonian Canal to the west. The Caledonian Canal forms the western boundary of the abbey grounds. Each of the apartments has been allocated its own car parking outside the clock tower.

The Moat house 7 has a self-catering apartment on the second floor, which can sleep 4 people with an area of 90 square meters. The master bedroom, situated upstairs is equipped with a king size bed. This apartment offers a picturesque view over the cloisters and of the monastery to the hills beyond.

Entertainment and sporting facilities at the Highland Club include a tennis court and cricket pitch, with the Boathouse restaurant situated within the grounds.

The Fort Augustus Abbey is undergoing its second phase of renovation. Once this is completed it will see the addition of an indoor swimming pool, spa facilities and a clubroom with full sized snooker table. These facilities will be for the exclusive use of Highland Club residents and visitors.

Excellent road, rail and air links provide easy access to the Highland capital. You an easily book your accommodation online directly with Owners Highland Club. Bookings can be made online in real time with a choice of payment methods.
