Hawkins up and away

After imported star Mischa Barton and Aussie beauty Megan Gale drew the crowds and cameras at the David Jones summer fashion launch last week, Myer will return fire with local glamour girl Jennifer Hawkins as the main attraction at its catwalk extravaganza in Sydney tonight.

Working her own brand of superstar magic, Hawkins left an entourage of male dancers swooning at her feet during steamy rehearsals for the Royal Hall of Industries parade yesterday.

Swapping diamonds for a massive disco ball, the 22-year-old former Miss Universe will dazzle in a Marilyn Monroe-style dance routine and test her comic timing in a segment with Sydney funnyman Garry Eck.

"This is going to be a star vehicle for Jen," show designer Tony Assness said.

"We are certainly pushing her out of her comfort zone."

In a further vote of confidence for local talent, DJs chief executive Mark McInnes called curtains on bringing out more international guests, saying in future the retail giant would rely on its long-term campaign frontwoman Gale.

"We have a long-term contract with Megan," Mr McInnes said. "It's our absolute view that she'll remain as the face of our brand."
