Anushka Singhal, a nine-year-old girl, has set a record by singing continuously for 18 hours recently. A fan of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, Anushka had sung at a stretch for 13 to 14 hours. "I am very fond of singing and used to practice for two to three hours daily. I have learnt singing by listening to music. My favourite singer is Lata ji and I want to become like her," said Anushka who is a standard five student. Attempting to break a previously set record for 17 hours set by a Chennai girl in Limca Book of World Records, Anushka started off early in the morning at five o'clock and finished by 11 o'clock at night. She sang a variety of songs from old classics and latest Bollywood movies. During her attempt, Anushka took just two breaks, 15 minutes each, although five breaks were officially allowed. According to Pushpa, mother of Anushka, her daughter enjoys singing and none of the family members ever compelled her to practice singing. Over the years she has practiced it by herself to break the record. "She had started practicing singing when she was three years old. Anushka likes to sing and it is her own dedication that she has performed for such a long time. She had also performed at Rotary Club in Nagpur for 13 hours continuously," said Pushpa. Anushka's father admits that as he remained occupied with office work, it was his wife Pushpa who encouraged their daughter to sing. However, watching the chid prodigy sing for 18 long hours was an unforgettable experience for the audience who patiently listened to Anushka. "When I heard that a nine year old girl would sing for 18 hours I was amazed. I decided to go to see her show. First, I had planned to watch it for two to three hours and then leave for my work. But when I heard her, I could not stop myself from sitting for a longer time. She was singing beautifully," said Gagan Kushwaha, a member of the audience.
