The Karnataka government has decided to spend Rs 350 crore by 2010 to implement programmes directed towards easing traffic congestion, Minister for Home M P Prakash said today.
During this year,a sum of Rs 44 crore would be spent on city traffic management,he told reporters here.
The Centre has sanctioned Rs 99 crore to the state out of Rs 323 crore sought by it for setting up new fire force stations, he said adding the strength of fire force stations from the existing 115 would be increased in phases.
Turning to the naxalite menace in the wake of a recent attack on a forest checkpost at Sringeri in Chikmagalur, Prakash said the government was determined to curb naxal activities.
The situation is not as grim as made out to be and the government is confident of containing it, he said,rejecting a question that naxal activities are on the rise in the state.
The government would appoint a commander to head the anti-naxal force in a week, he said.
