Against the backdrop of July 11 Mumbai blasts, the Railway Ministry is mooting a proposal on enactment of law to provide entry only to the bonafide passengers at the railway stations, Union Minister of State for Railways Narainbhai Rathwa said today. "We are introducing strict security measures at the stations across the country and after deciding on entry of only bonafide passengers on the platforms, the railway station authorities will provide trolleys to these passengers to carry their luggage," Rathwa said here. He was addressing the 26th Annual General Meeting of the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) here. He appealed to the railway staff to cooperate with the authorities in checking the movements of suspicious people on platforms and in the trains, who commits thefts after drugging the passengers. He said close circuit televisions (CCTVs) will be also be installed at the stations for monitoring movements of people. Rathwa announced that 20 km narrow guage railway line between Pratapnagar on the outskirts of the city and Dabhoi railway station (Asia's biggest narrow guage railway station) will be converted into broad guage by March 2007. He said work on conversions of the 95 km Pratapnagar- Chhotaudepur line into broad guage line has been going on as per schedule. Rathwa said due to congestion of traffic on Western Railway route, it was not possible to concede the demands of introduction of new trains. He informed that construction of a third railway line between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Delhi at a total cost of Rs 22,000 crores for carrying of goods only, will benefit Gujarat more as it will also help to introduce new goods trains on the existing route of western railway. President of Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh J G Mahurkar said employees would help Railways achieve profit of Rs 18,000 crores this year.
