Popstar Madonna has escaped prosecution over her controversial mock crucifixion at a concert in Germany on Sunday as the authorities have decided not to open an official investigation into the stunt. Prosecutors’ spokesman Johannes Mocken said that while the scene “might be hurtful to religious people,” there was no indication of a criminal offence. He said, the routine, which includes Madonna strapped to an elevated mirrored cross while donning a crown of thorns and crooning her 1986 song "Live To Tell," was covered by laws protecting artistic freedom. Reports had claimed that Madonna could face arrest if she chose to go ahead with the controversial sequence during the German show, which she performed in front of 45,000 people. The singer, herself a lapsed Catholic, has insisted that the routine is part of her appeal to audiences to donate money to AIDS charities. Madonna continues her tour in Russia this week, where religious leaders have already taken the liberty of denouncing her show, reports Eonline!
