More private participation needed in IFFI: CII

By: Bollywood News

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has stressed the need for more private participation in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2006 to be held in Goa.

"Bobby Bedi, who represents CII in the capacity of chairman of its Entertainment Committee, insisted that the film market is something that needs to be strongly revised during IFFI 2006," IFFI Director Anand Mohan told PTI here today.

Mohan, who chaired the IFFI preparation meeting that was attended by Bedi, Goa Chief Secretary J P Singh and other senior officers, said more private participation to strengthen the country's film market was "something seriously thought about".

"Like last year, CII will hold conferences and seminars as a part of the Film Bazar for IFFI 2006," Mohan said.

He said the exercise to make Goa self-sufficient in holding the festival by 2008 will start this year. The Centre's share of funding for the event would be same as last year. "Gradually, Goa will have to stand on its own to hold this festival," he said.

The Entertainment Society of Goa, a government-formed agency, will be the nodal coordinator for the IFFI. More public theatres will be used this year to screen movies during the festival.

"We will not leave out the public at large but the selection of theatres will be subject to approval from the technical committee," he said.
