Why 'Vijay' played by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan in films such as 'Deewar' and 'Trishul' left such a deep impression on the Indian youth in the seventies or how could Aamir Khan starrer 'Rang De Basanti' inspire an entire generation to raise its voice against corruption? While experts laud Bollywood's contribution in instilling the values of humanity, love and patriotism in the Indian society, they said more literature and research is needed to understand the psyche of the common Indian cinewatcher. "There have been so many books on film stars, but the viewer who pays to watch these stars has not been written about," eminent author Narendra Panjwani said. "There is need to research the very emotions a viewer goes through while watching a film. For example, Amitabh Bachchan could touch a chord with the masses in the seventies by playing 'Vijay' in many films because in those roles, he emerged as the 'common man' who could fight the odds posed by the richer and influential classes," said Panjwani, who has written 'Emotion Pictures', a book dedicated to the Indian viewer. "We need to know, what is the psyche of the Indian cinegoer which leads him to watch so many films," said Pavan Verma, Director General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
