National Gymnastics Day Proclaimed for the State of Maryland

By: Arts & Entertainment News

Robert Ehrlich, Governor of Maryland, signed a proclamation officially making August 5, 2006 National Gymnastics Day in the State of Maryland. Governor Ehrlich was petitioned by the Sportsplex Booster Club on behalf of the Sportsplex Gymnastics Team to recognize this special day.

National Gymnastics Day provides a day that showcases, to the public, the talents and efforts of all gymnasts, both male and female. It also puts on display the mental and physical benefits that gymnastics training provides. But most important, it creates an opportunity for gymnastics clubs across the United States to raise money for the "Children's Miracle Network." The Sportsplex Gymnastics Booster Club has set a goal of $5,000.00 to be raised for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, MD, which is part of the Children's Miracle Network.

National Gymnastics Day is being celebrated at the Prince Georges's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. For event details or to make a donation, go to www.ngdsportsplex.com

The Sportsplex Gymnastics program is under the direction of Patti Delaney at the Prince George's Sport and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. The program consists of 45 athletes, with levels 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 as competitive levels. The level 3 team does not compete. The Sportsplex Gymnastics competitive program started in 2004.
