Murder victim Nitish Katara's mother Saturday said a city court's proceedings to declare key witness Bharti Yadav a proclaimed offender would help her "get justice". "Bharti is the most crucial witness in the case as she was present at the party from where my son was taken away and murdered," said Neelam Katara. Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav, brother and cousin respectively of Bharti Yadav, are facing trial in the case for allegedly kidnapping Nitish, son of a former IAS officer, in 2001 and killing him because of his relationship with their sister. A Delhi court earlier Saturday allowed the police to initiate the process for declaring Bharti, who is in Britain, a 'proclaimed offender'. "The court has asked Bharti to be present by Sep 28 or be declared a proclaimed offender," Katara told IANS here. She added that Bharti, who ignored repeated summons to appear in court for three years, would be able to throw light on the case and also the sequence of events that led to Nitish's murder. Claiming that it was Bharti' father who was forcing her not to be present before the court, Katara said, "She knows so much about the case that her family has not allowed her to testify before the court."
