A nurse has been struck off the register following a conviction for having pornographic images of children on his work laptop. A panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Professional Conduct Committee, found that Gordon Main, employed by the Performance Through Health (PTH) Group at the time, demonstrated conduct unworthy of a registered nurse and was found guilty of misconduct. Mr Main was found guilty on nine counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of a child between January 2001 and February 2004. Mr Main's work laptop had a total of 216 images and 1 video of sexual activity involving children. Up to 30% of the memory on his laptop was taken up with these images. The panel found that Mr Main broke the law and also abused the trust and confidence that his employers had placed in him. Commenting on the panel's decision, Craig Turton, spokesman for the NMC said: "These actions were not isolated but continued over a period of years. Gordon Main's criminal behaviour is incompatible with being a nurse and is a serious departure from the relevant standards as set out in the NMC's Codes of Professional Conduct. It is essential that Mr Main be removed from the register so the public can continue to have trust and confidence in the nursing profession."
