OUTCOME CEO to Chair Panel on Good Registry Practice at ISPOR 10th Annual European Congress

By: World News

Outcome Sciences, Inc. (OUTCOME), the leading provider of patient registries and studies for evaluating real-world outcomes, announced today that Richard Gliklich, M.D., President and CEO of Outcome Sciences, will be moderating a panel on “Good Registry Practice” at the ISPOR 10th Annual European Congress on Monday, October 22, 2007. The conference is being sponsored by the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and will include a panel of industry professionals at the RDS Irish International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Dublin, Ireland.

Sarah Garner, BPharm, PhD, MRPharmS, Technical Advisor of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and Kathryn Starzyk, MS, Associate Director of OUTCOME’s Scientific Affairs, will serve on a panel that will present best practice recommendations for the design, use, and evaluation of patient registries. Dr. Gliklich, the principal investigator and a senior editor of the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) published handbook “Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes: A User’s Guide,” will chair the discussion on good registry practices for patient registries and their utility in meeting evolving global needs for real-world outcomes data.

“There has been a dramatic increase in the demand from regulators, payers, and providers for patient registries and data from real-world clinical experience,” said Dr. Gliklich, President and CEO of OUTCOME. “This has put into focus the need to standardize expectations and to hone the science and practice of developing, managing, and interpreting patient registries. This panel will focus on what’s been done and what is needed to effectively incorporate patient outcomes from these programs into decision-making at every level.”

The speakers will present background information on the scientific and regulatory climate that has led to the growth of registries as a tool for evaluating patient outcomes and key findings of recent efforts to identify best practices. Speakers will also provide information to participants on expectations of registry consumers for different registry purposes and how to meet these expectations. An explanation of the framework for evaluating the quality of registries and a range of recommendations for best practices in support of regulatory goals will also be discussed.
