Orissa Steelers scored an emphatic 3-0 win over hapless Bangalore Lions to enhance their chances of leading on points table in the ESPN Professional Hockey League tournament here tonight. Maintaining their superior play, Orissa went into the lead in the 32nd minute through Dutchman Tjeerd Steller and then Pakistani Adnan Zakir made it 2-0. Damandeep Singh settled the issue beyond doubt in the 62nd minute. Steelers now have 11 points from five matches With this loss, Bangalore lions have ended their first leg outing with three wins and three defeats for nine points. Orissa Steelers (three wins and two losses from five matches) will play their last match against Maratha Warriors on Sunday. With a bunch of talented youngsters around, Orissa Steelers held the advantage right from the beginning of the match. The team threatened their rivals with an emphasis on ball play and short passes and often attacked from the wings. The constant good reflexes shown by goal keeper Bharat Chetri of Bangalore Lions denied them the lead during most of the first two quarters. Orissa Steelers continued their attack and cashed in on a defence lapse following their second penalty corner and the ball remained near the Bangalore Lions D' for a longer time than expected. In the 32nd minute, Amar Aiyamma stopped the ball and sent it to Roshan Minz, who relayed it to Damandeep Sigh, whose pass was well drove in by the Netherlands forward, Steller. This was Steelers third goal in five matches in the tournament.
