WIRE)--Outdoor Channel, the Leader in Outdoor TV, announced today the return of its fourth annual Offshore Classic on January 14 – 16, 2008 in Islamorada, Florida. The sailfish tournament provides an opportunity for outdoorsmen to help raise money and catch fish alongside members of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that works to maximize the quality of life for its armed veteran members and all people with spinal cord injury or dysfunction. “The Offshore Classic has been Outdoor Channel’s way of giving back to individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for America’s great outdoors,” said Vice President of Outdoor Affinity Marketing for Outdoor Channel Scott Mann. “Both veterans and outdoor enthusiasts alike, can fish side by side in a fun event that will help improve the lives of our country’s heroes.” Throughout the tournament, organizers have planned exciting events and parties hosted at the Islander Resort and Bass Pro Shops’ Islamorada store, World Wide Sportsman, including a special fundraising auction to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Last year, the fund-raising effort raised more than $10,000 for the Paralyzed Veterans of America Heritage Fund (www.pvaheritagefund.org). The 2008 effort is expected to top that figure. There will be many teams representing the Paralyzed Veterans of America, including veterans from both Iraqi wars. There are two days of fishing on January 15 and 16 with lines in at 8:00 a.m. each day. The fishing tournament has a release format using circle hooks on all live and dead bait and teams will be awarded 100 points for each sailfish. Winners of the tournament will be awarded cash prizes and trophies. All anglers are required to adhere to International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules.
