Pak condemns grenade attack on Mirwaiz house

Pakistan today condemned the grenade attack by militants on the Srinagar residence of Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, the Chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference.

"The government of Pakistan hopes that the safety and security of Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and all other Kashmiri leaders will be ensured," a statement by the Foreign Office said here.

Militants yesterday hurled a grenade towards Mirwaiz Manzil, which landed about 20 metres away from a security bunker guarding the house.

While the Mirwaiz, who travels to Pakistan on January 17, was away in Jammu holding meetings, some of his family members were inside the house when the attack took place but there was no casualty.
