Pakistan athorities have arrested 25 Indian fishermen for illegally entering Pakistani territorial seawaters for fishing, Geo Television reported Sunday. The fishermen were arrested from the Pakistani seawater limits by the Karachi local Maritime Security Agency and were handed over to police in the coastal city, where the fishermen would be presented in a court Monday. During the first half of 2006, Pakistan released 112 Indian prisoners, including 19 civilian prisoners and 93 fishermen, while the Indian government released 60 civilian prisoners and 59 fishermen. The fishermen were arrested for fishing in each other's waters. As part of the peace process from January 2004, the two governments agreed to expedite the release of each other's prisoners caught on the wrong side of the border.
