The Planning Commission has set up a working group on power to review the performance of the sector during the 10th five-year plan and formulate targets for 11th plan, the Lok Sabha was informed today. The working group, set up under the chairmanship of Power Secretary (R V Shahi), would submit its report to the Commission by September 30 this year, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said in a written reply. The terms of reference of the group include review of the likely achievements during the 10th plan in meeting targets fixed for generation, transmission, distribution and renovation and modernisation, he said. Replying to a query on whether the Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd, earlier known as Dabhol power plant, would require an additional fund of Rs 10,000 crore for operating, Shinde replied in the negative. RGPPL has incurred an expenditure of about Rs 250 crore towards revival works till July 31, he said, adding NTPC, Gail and IDBI-led lenders have invested a total equity capital of Rs 1,765 crore in the project. To another question, Shinde said state-run power company NTPC Ltd was in discussions with Government of Qatar for equity participation of up to 40 per cent in its 1,950 Mw Kayamkulam Stage-II gas-fired power plant in Kerala.
