Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today said pressure was mounting on India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue. "Pressure is mounting (on India and Pakistan) to resolve the long-standing Kashmir issue on permanent basis through peaceful dialogue process in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here. He said the "great sacrifices rendered by the people of the state has brought Kashmir issue at the international fora and efforts to resolve it has gained momentum." Mirwaiz said conferences, seminars and debates on the Kashmir issue were being organised in various parts of the globe, which indicate the world response in finding an everlasting solution to the Kashmir issue. "I am getting invitations including from Pakistan for participation in most of such gatherings to present the view point of Kashmiris and the historical background of the issue besides representing the wishes and aspirations of the people," he said. On the flood situation in the state, the Hurriyat chairman said the detailed report prepared by various delegations of the amalgam after visiting the affected areas described the condition of the marooned people as "extremly tragic". "The ruling party is making false claims about rescue and relief measures through print and electronic media but in reality these have proved as just a lip service," he said. "No relief or assistance has reached the affected population which is a human tragedy and condemnable," he said and asked the administration to take solid steps to ensure timely help to the flood-hit population.
