Depression is the stand-out winner when it comes to picking the worse of all mental disorders. Why? Well partly because of the sheer number of people affected (experts estimate between 30-95%, dependent upon age group) and partly because depression can be fatal. And very much because it's not just the sufferer who suffers. Depression has a deep and brutal impact on the whole family. All of that is bad enough to take the prize. But depression is even worse than that because of one thing. The rapid rate at which it's increasing. In fact the World Health Organisation says that by the year 2020, the cost of depression will even be greater than the combined cost of all the cardio-vascular diseases (that's heart disease, artery disease, diabetes, etc)! So naturally there's a lot of interest in doing something about depression. But here we have a problem because the only people with the money to "market" solutions are the big drug companies. And of course they're not interested in anything but drug solutions. So far they've given us the SSRI's (serotonin selective re-uptake inhibitors) trying to have us believe that extra exposure to serotonin is the answer. But the SSRI's have been around long enough for enough experts to review the drug companies' research and report that basically their story on the SSRI's is pretty much a crock. It's not surprising that now we know the SSRI's are no more effective than sugar pills, many doctors flatly refuse to prescribe them. SO WHAT DO WE DO? I'm glad you asked that question. It turns out that only certain, rarer forms of depression benefit from medication (and that's NOT SSRI's!). But there is a newly-developed approach to treating depression that's been proven in clinical trial in Australia, and it's backed up by a truckload of other research in neurophysiology right around the globe. And that approach is twofold: first do a thorough check of lifestyle (including nutrition, activity, work, home and relationships), and secondly, teach the patient incredibly simple techniques to quickly and permanently "shut down" depression activity in the brain. WHAT DETAILS CAN I GET ON THIS NEW TREATMENT STRATEGY? To do its job an article has to be short and to the point, and I hope I've done that here. If you'd like to learn more, you can do so quite freely with a range of free resources that step you through the crucial lifestyle factors, and also step you through a simple BMSA treatment so you can see for yourself how quickly and easily you can gain relief. These books are "17 Solutions" (detailing the crucial lifestyle factors) and "Stop Wishing and Start GETTING!" which is both an argument against "The Secret" and a demonstration of how easy it can be to achieve positive change when you use a proven scientific approach instead of superstitious thinking, or indeed, out-dated and disproven therapy approaches! You actually need to be a member of TopLifeSolutions.com to grab these free books, but that's OK because membership is free also. Along with the free video support and a host of other things all designed to help people move toward better health and more satisfaction with their lives. For medical practitioners and mental health professionals, more information including research papers is available on www.bmsa-int.com, a site which provides up-to-date information and support for clinicians interested in integrating more efficacious therapy practice.
