Prominent musicians of Rajasthan have joined hands to raise funds for flood victims in the State. The Jaipur Virasat Foundation is spearheading the fund-collection drive. John Singh, who organised a musical program for this cause, said he was happy over the response initiative from the city’s glitterati. "We want to involve the common people in this mission to bring relief to the flood affected people. If a tragedy strikes our state, we must be aware and involved in relief - that is why, we have rallied around these people," Singh said. "My family lost absolutely everything as the floods inundated our houses and we now own not a shred of cloth except what we wear. It is almost like I have lost my limbs, said folk musician Anwar Khan. “Our musical instruments are submerged; there is nothing else we can earn a livelihood from. The sad part is that the flood water still remains collected around our house and my children are scared," Khan added. The recent floods have severely road and rail traffic in Rajasthan. Drought-prone villages in Barmer District have turned into Islands of water. Barmer's average annual rainfall is 277 mm, but this time, received 577 mm in August. This year’s rains in Rajasthan have been the worst in the last two decades. Homes and crops have been destroyed and about 45,000 head of cattle have been swept away.
