The government today said a total of Rs 2,092 crore credit limit has been sanctioned under the Swarojgar Credit Cards scheme since 2003 to help small borrowers access more funds. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Textile E V K S Elangovan said from the inception of the scheme till September 30, 2006, Rs 2092 crore credit limit has been sanctioned and 4,95,139 cards issued. NABARD had introduced the scheme in September 2003 in consultation with the government and RBI. The scheme aims at facilitating credit flow from the banking system to small borrowers such as self-employed people, artisans, handloom weavers and micro entrepreneurs. Uttar Pradesh received the highest number of cards at 79505 followed by Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, he said.
