Dozens of Samajwadi Party activists on Monday took to streets here, in protest against the Maharashtra government's decision to scale down the security cover of Amitabh Bachchan. The activists also burnt an effigy of Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi. Bachchan is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council and though not directly involved in politics, has campaigned several times for the Samajwadi Party in the past. Bachchan's wife and film actor Protestors alleged the reduction in Bachchan�s security was part of a conspiracy hatched by the Congress party. "We are protesting against the reduction of security cover to Amitabh Bachchan that has been taken away by the Maharashtra government at the instance of the Congress ruled Centre. We condemn this and we have burnt an effigy of Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi. He is the pride of Allahabad and in fact of the whole country. His security has been decreased as part of a conspiracy. The Congress party government should resign and the Maharashtra government should be dismissed," said Ravindra Yadav, District President of the Samajwadi Party. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal however, dismissed allegations that the Centre was in any way involved in deciding Big B�s security cover. He said it was entirely for the state government to decide whether to increase of decrease anybody�s security cover. "We don't have any information on whose security has been increased or reduced. The security given to any individual by the state government is monitored by them only. We have nothing to do with it. If we get a complaint on this, we will see," said Jaiswal while addressing a news conference.
