Security Companies Put New Non-Economic Offer on Table in Bay Area Security Officers Negotiations

By: Economy News

Wednesday night, Security companies put a comprehensive package of non-economic proposals on the table in an effort to reach the first stage of an agreement with union leaders for a contract covering 5,500 security officers in the Bay Area.

The companies are meeting with union leaders from SEIU Local 24/7 in accelerated negotiations with bargaining sessions scheduled to continue through Friday evening.

Earlier this week, less than one percent of the officers participated in a brief strike against the companies. The union is currently under federal investigation for its strike tactics, and several Security companies today filed their own federal charges against the union for what they believe was an illegal strike.

Union leaders made an unconditional offer to return strikers to work after only a few members honored picket lines. The Security companies reinstated all striking employees on Thursday morning.

The security companies include ABM Security Services, AlliedBarton Security Services, Securitas Security Services U.S.A., and Universal Protection Service.

“We’re pleased that the union leadership has returned to the negotiating table,” said Guy Thomas, a representative of the Security companies. “We asked them to identify any issues of concern so we can address them.”

By agreement between the companies and the union, the negotiations are centered on workplace policies and procedures to ensure security both for the buildings and for employees. Wages and benefits will be addressed next. The security companies believe that union leaders should accept the current policies and procedures because the union negotiated, approved and ratified the same terms four years ago.

“We look forward to reaching a consensus on workplace policies and procedures, so that we can make an economic proposal that will include wage increases for our valued employees,” Thomas said.
