Students of M S University here today burnt the effigy of Congress President Sonia Gandhi for not singing 'Vande Mataram'. Two students Manish Sanghani and Nitin Patel said that the programme was organised under the banner of 'Hind Rakshak Samiti' (Sardar Patel group), without prior announcement. Students gathered near the statue of Sardar Patel located in Sayajigunj locality here and burnt Sonia's effigy, before police rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, suspended BJP leader Nalin Bhatt and his supporters, who had made advance announcement of the programme were prevented from burning the effigy of Sonia Gandhi by police. The members of `Hind Rakshak Samiti' and supporters of Bhatt condemned Sonia and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for abstaining from the Vande Mataram programme organised to mark the centenary celebrations of the adoption of the song.
