Surrealist Poetry Provides an Exotic Escape from Everyday Routine and Reality

By: Arts & Entertainment News

Readers who desire to break away from their own lives and busy schedules, if even for a moment, can now take haven with Brandon Gene Petit's poetry collection, "Intrinsic Desires" (ISBN 1420891995, AuthorHouse, 2006). "Intrinsic Desires" is a compilation of both traditional and unconventional poetry, with neo-gothic overtones. Through both free verse and rhyming styles, Petit explores themes such as love, nature, dreams, religious struggles and existential philosophy.

The poems are tied together with the recurring theme of "desire," which surfaces within many different contexts. Petit delves into a variety of human desires, from the desire for mental exploration, to the desire for love, to the desire for a connection with nature and reality. Each theme found within "Intrinsic Desires" relates to an issue that Petit has personally encountered or reflected upon in his life.

"Intrinsic Desires" offers an insightful glimpse into the complicated nature of the human spirit, with poetry that exposes both the darkest and lightest sides of the soul. The deep subject matter is often brought to life with fantasy and surrealism imagery, heavily influenced by Petit's own dreams and "paramnesia."

"I like to think that I combine the worlds of the mortal heart and the mortal mind, attempting to create a world of intelligent imagination occasionally striped with a breath of raw human emotion and reality," Petit says. He began writing song lyrics as a teenager, which gradually became more abstract and led him to writing poetry. Petit's literary influences include H.P. Lovecraft, J.R.R. Tolkien and Poe.

Brandon Gene Petit resides in Port Jervis, New York. His poems have appeared in twenty-four anthologies (including twelve in the UK) and two recordings. His poem, "The Unwritten Quest" won a place in the Forward Press Top 100 Poets awards. He is currently working towards a career in graphic design and is writing another collection of poetry, as well as trying his hand at short stories. "Intrinsic Desires" (ISBN 1420891995, AuthorHouse, 2006) can be purchased through local and online bookstores. For more information, visit www.authorsden.com/brandongpetit.
